THE DOODLER IS IN

SEE ALL >

Karen is an award-winning children’s author who has published close to 30 novels, nonfiction books, graphic novels, and graphic nonfiction books.  She began her career as a Scholastic magazine editor, and became an independent educational writer while raising her three children.  In the early 00s she began working directly with scientists on outreach and educational programs.  Now she has taken this work from the deep sea to the ends of the Earth — working in both the Arctic and Antarctic, which inspired her ongoing science comic AntarcticLog, about climate change. I Was a Kid developed at the crossroads of her worlds, where she recognized her own feelings of inadequacy toward science — and wanted to help today’s kids overcome this in order to enter the most exciting field in the world.

How Can Your Contribution Help?

Most of all, it allows us to get the materials into the hands of kids, their teachers, and their parents, at no cost to them.

It supports the work involved in creating I Was a Kid: research, writing, and artwork.

It supports the website and printing and postage costs.

And it helps with the cost of getting the word out to the education and science communities.
